According to legend, four thieves in the Middle Ages, while the plague was raging and they were raiding houses in France, used an unusually effective herbal mixture to protect themselves from contracting the disease? Although the infectious disease was highly contagious, the four thieves were spared the plague thanks to the rubbing of the herbs. In order to obtain the secret recipe for this miracle cure, the court decided after the arrest of the four thieves to reduce their sentence in return for handing over the secret recipe.
Hoping for a lighter sentence, the four revealed the secret of their mixture:
Clove, rosemary, cinnamon, eucalyptus and lemon.
This combination was tested in 1997 by Weber State University in Utah. In their studies, they were able to confirm the antiviral, antiseptic and antibacterial effects of these herbs.
